Our Team

  • Claire Schulz, FDM - Head Trainer

Claire had her spark for dog training ignited while completing a mentorship under a local service dog trainer for an ADI accredited organization. From there, she learned how a service dog would benefit her life with her own disabilities. In 2020, she received her first service dog prospect and after a year made the difficult decision to wash him for an inappropriate temperament for service work. Since then, she has fully trained her current service dog, Pluto, added a second dog, Winnie (service dog in training), into her family, and pursued further education within the field of dog training. As of 2025, Claire has graduated multiple teams from her program into their titles of fully trained service dogs. She currently attends training seminars geared towards service dog training, is working towards a service dog specific certification, and has experience with a variety of breeds and dogs for service work.

Claire exclusively offers training for service dogs. She will work with a variety of service dogs, including, but not limited to, psychiatric, medical alert, mobility, and allergen detection. Claire believes in training the dog in front of you, using a Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive methodology. This means Claire will look at the whole picture of the dog (health, environment, etc) before moving on to training methods. Not every method will work for every dog, so it’s important for us to take everything into consideration before training ever begins.

As of August 2025, Claire is now an official consultant and board member for International Assistance Dog Alliance (IADA), a non-profit aiming to advance social welfare for service dog handlers.

  • Cora Bod - Communications Director

If you reach out to us at Cosmic, Cora is likely the one answering you! She is in charge of all things scheduling and helping answering your questions.

Cora has a retired service dog and recently welcomed her new service dog in training, Koivu, into her family. Koivu was returned to her breeder at nine months old. After undergoing an in-depth evaluation, Koivu was matched with Cora and spent seven weeks with Claire, learning the foundations of service work, before heading home with her new handler.

Here at Cosmic we value the community we serve of disabled folks, so it’s important to us that those employed here are apart of the same community. Cora lives on the East Coast and is passionate about working with others in the communities she belongs to!

  • Mercury Burge - Apprentice Trainer

Mercury found their passion for training dogs in 2020 over the pandemic. She started training their family dog, Lily, to do tricks and slowly started finding tasks that could help their disabilities, and eventually Lily became a Service Dog. Lily is now retired and she is training their second service dog, Cricket as her successor. They have attended dog communication seminars, and also work as a part time dog groomer. She has now started a mentorship with Cosmic Service Dogs and is very excited to see where it leads.

As of June 2025, Cricket has officially graduated the Cosmic Service Dog Program. He has completely all behavior and health testing required of them, as well as completed learning for all tasks needed by Mercury!

Pluto + Winnie, resident demo dogs

Plutonium-239, “Pluto,” born February 2nd, 2021, is Claire’s fully trained service dog. He is a field line Labrador, from British field lines, who’s primary tasks include mobility and medical alert (migraine + POTS). When not assisting Claire with their disabilities, he can be found on the disc field competing with the Updog Challenge. He is a 4x Updog Internationals Finalist, hitting the national field at just barely two years old, and is just a few points shy of earning the highest level disc title available through AKC. Without his involvement in sports, Pluto would not be the level headed, stable service dog he is today. He thrives in busy environments like downtown Nashville and Walt Disney World - having visited four times now, delivering careful, accurate alerts each trip.

Ursa’s Cosmic Honey Pot, “Winnie,” born May 29th, 2024, is Claire’s service dog in training. Winnie is another field line Labrador, 75% British field lines, 25% American field lines. Her primary tasks (once fully trained) will be to related to Claire’s autistic struggles as well as medical alert. Winnie has two natural alerts, to migraine attacks and autistic meltdowns. Like Pluto, Winnie is also a sport dog. She is Claire’s Novice A Rally-O dog, with her enthusiasm for the sport being present every time she steps into the ring. Additionally, they are working towards the goal of competing in disc, but Winnie is not as naturally inclined to it like Pluto.

Both Winnie and Pluto are true testaments to the versatility and stability of the Labrador breed. Claire would not be where she is in life without them by her side!
